Genetic Study for Megaesophagus
-
This research project is conducted by Clemson University. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
- Congenital, Idiopathic Megaesophagus Clients ONLY. Primary focus is German Shepherd Dogs but all breeds are welcome at this time. Dogs MUST have been diagnosed at a young age. (Note: Dogs with acquired Megaesophagus may not participate in this study.)
- Contact Dr. Leigh Ann Clark at lclark4@clemson.edu
- Dr. Clark will mail you a kit to complete a cheek swab of your dog. You will need to mail the swab back, per instructions, to Dr. Clark at your expense. (Note: You will need to pay the postage to return the sample, approximately 2-3 stamps.)
- The goal of the research is to identify the genetic basis for Megaesophagus so that a genetic test can be developed to allow for the identification of dogs that are capable of producing mega pups prior to breeding.
- As always, donations are accepted by Clemson University to further veterinary research. Contact Dr. Clark at the above email address.
